i have a thing for dark characters. and it seems very appropriate to bring it up because 1) spooky szn is upon us!! and 2) Supernova, the finale for the Renegades trilogy, is coming soon. i bring up Renegades because there’s a lot of talk about heroes vs antiheroes and all that jazz. i’ll talk more about that later but first: antiheroes. 

so when i say i love antiheroes, i mostly mean morally grey characters with a *dark past muahahah*. (okay you don’t have to have a dark past or constantly brood but…) 

i think of the default of this so-called type: draco malfoy from HP or loki from MCU. and you know, i don’t love love them as most people would assume, but i do like them. i like how they’re tired of the Chosen One (honestly same) and they want something for themselves. i’ve come to realize a lot of the Chosen One protagonist type characters have this narrative of *saving the day and society as a whole*. that’s all fine and dandy, but you could also save, i dunno, yourself. it’s not a selfish act to care for yourself. (right?) 

another thing i realized for antiheroes: they get the job done. i think of kaz from Six of Crows. okay so maaaaaybe he killed some people and did some backstabbing BUT it was for redemption!! it was for revenge!! it was ultimately for a good cause!!!! (getting rich is a good cause, right?) anyway. i appreciate doing the Good Thing, but i also find it very boring. does it make me a bad person to relate more with antiheroes than the typical protagonist? (answer: no) 

antiheroes are interesting, unpredictable, and complex. they can have so many reasons for the things they do, or sometimes no reason at all. they’re interesting because they believe they’re doing the Good Thing, but most people don’t see it or would disagree. moral of the story: morally grey characters are the best.

but moving on: supernova and renegades!!
