i also i wish sjm gave more of a world refresher/mini previous book recap. i tend to forget almost everything that happened in the previous books so without a refresher when a not-so-main character shows up i’m like “HUH?!” “WHO IS THIS??!!” I LOVE ROWAN SO MUCH HE IS SO AMAZING. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Aelin on the throne alone…wouldn’t that be interesting…

RIGHT?! i thought all these new characters were people who appeared in the previous books and i was like, “how come i have no recollection of ANY OF THIS?” i was so confused and frustrated. aelin on the throne alone would be serious GIRL POWER.

Amazing discussion!! 🙂 Just reading this makes me want to pick up this fantastic book again before the release of Queen of Shadows. I agree with you completely that it was a little slow to begin, but somewhere along the way the story just takes off and you are so invested in these characters. It took me a little while to get into the Manon’s story, but I am so intrigued how their stories are going to connect. Is she going to turn good?? She seems like she has a little streak of goodness in her that the other ones do not have. I am so excited to read the next book! 🙂 I am being honest- this has made me want to pick up Heir of Fire before the release and just have a fresh take into Queen of Shadows. GREAT discussion! 🙂

WELL NOW U NEED TO READ THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE TO FIND OUT ABOUT SAM.

i have to say you kinda lost me on rowan and celaena ending up together though. like i love rowan but mostly i love him AS MY BAE and not with celaena / aelin. i love them solidly as sisters and bro type things. i still love chaol and celaena together even though chaol has a lot of shit to sort out like EXACTLY PICK A TEAM and i said this in my post about what i wanted to see in qos but i kinda think too much is in motion right now for a romance to really settle in place but maybeee in like book five and definitely in book six i’d really like to see aelin back with chaol again and him finally not being a loser.

I ALSO WANT DORIAN TO FIND HAPPINESS GODDAMN IT. and him to get back to being bffs with chaol. AND OMG I TOTALLY FORGOT YOUNG AELIN AND DORIAN MEETING YOU BROUGHT BACK SUCH GREAT MEMORIES OMG CUTE.

also i love aedion so idk. BTW UR PICTURES ARE ON POINTE AS ALWAYS (HAHAHAHA SEE WHAT I DID THERE. POINTE GET IT LOL I’M HILARIOUS TRULY)

and i can’t believe qos comes out in like… four days???

OHMYGOD ASSASSIN’S BLADE. i need to get to that. though i feel like celaena seriously has way too many suitors. it’s hard for me to stick to one since there are so many. (currently rooting for dorian/aelin though after watching/reading some other discussions and hearing theories) you’re probably going to hate me but i never really like chaol?? he always seemed a bit annoying? and i couldn’t understand or feel celaena’s relationship with him??? like ever? i was completely set on dorian/celaena like in tog, but kinda gave up after their relationship was at a standstill. but after hearing these theories… HOW CAN I NOT SHIP THEM? #iwillgodownwiththisship

baby aelin/dorian/chaol/aedion are so adorable. except for when the king decides to (literally) worm his way in and destory everything (SEE WHAT I DID THERE BC HE PUT A WORM IN AELIN’S MIND)

also, YOU ARE BRILLIANT AND TOTALLY ON POINTE. PUNS ARE LIFE. queen of shadows will ruin me. i don’t know how i’m going to deal.

    Great Review!
I finished Heir of Fire at the beginning of this month and I loved it!
Though I waited almost a year until picking it up after Crown of Midnight. Because of this I was also confused by what was going on. I couldn’t match names to characters and I didn’t get about half of the terms but after I sorted it all out I couldn’t stop reading. Sarah J Maas is literally the best.
    😀

OKAY so I just finished rereading HoF in anticipation for QoS to arrive in my mailbox. I have to admit that I love HoF almost as much as I love ToG. I’m totally hoping for Chaol and Celaena (which I know is close to impossible at this point, okay? Just let me drown in my feels tears). And OMG I *LOVE* Rowan. Their relationship is adorable and I love how it grew and progressed. They just clicked. Magical. Celaena’s character growth was soooooo amazing.
AND MY GOD WHY CAN’T DORIAN HAVE ONE GOOD THING IN THIS WORLD. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HIM ;(
My first time reading HoF, I didn’t really like how Manon’s POV was suddenly thrust into the fray and I really just wanted to know what was happening with Celaena, Chaol, and Dorian. However, this time around I appreciated her much more.
THEN the ending had SO MUCH HAPPEN my poor feels.
Long story short: Sarah J Maas is a goddess and I absolutely can’t wait until QoS.

    • alexandra @ twirlingpages says

i love your response!! YOU READ MY MIND! this was my first time reading it, so i cannot wait to reread. perhaps after QoS when i’m (probably) in a book hangover? IT’S COMING OUT IN ONE DAY ARE YOU READY BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW IF I AM

      • Cassidy says

I’M NOT READY! also, I ordered my copy from Books of Wonder signed so its not even shipping to me until tomorrow and then I have to wait the 3-7 days or whatever shipping I bought :/

        I NEED IT NOW!!

I JUST finished reading Heir of Fire late last night! I am so in love. ROWAN WHITETHORN. IS. MINE. As you said, he was a huge part of the enjoyment factor! Rowan’s pretty much everything you could ever want in a character and more. *major heart eyes* And I loved reading about Celaena/Aelin’s kickass fire powers. I didn’t know she COULD get any more kickass. But she did. Great review, Alexandra!
