farewell, summer!
that was probably the SADDEST sentence of the year. saying goodbye to summer is the worst, but it’s happening and it’s real. these are meant to be monthly wrap-ups, but i’m going to try to squish an entire season into one post! yay me! summer was fairly uneventful in terms of reading and blogging, so it’d be a hassle for me to continue on with monthly recaps during the season. (meaning: 1/ i was lazy, 2/ time is liquid when the temperatures are high and schedules are array). i think i did enough recaps for you to know what i was doing while i was not reading. (i mean, almost ALL OF MY JUNE/JULY posts are weekly recaps from the city. ummmm…? i just like talking about my life.)
books i read:
other happenings on the blog:
- shared my recap of showstopper dance competition
- wrote an open letter to lara jean song (and jenny han)
- celebrated my birthday
- shared my struggles with commenting
- shared the reasons why i love booktube
- shared my adventures in new york ohmygod (part 1 / part 2 / part 3 / part 4 / part 5 / part 6 / part 7 / part 8 is coming soon because i’m terrible at staying on schedule)
- wrote a letter to all the ice cream i loved before
- CELEBRATED MY BLOGOVERSARY (and hosted my first giveaway which is still ongoing and you should totally enter!!!)
- discussed my thoughts on book subscription boxes
- shared ten books in my INTRO TO READING class
- reviewed the PAPER TOWNS movie
- shared haul the books from new york (get it? ALL the books? HAUL the books???)
on replay
for most of the summer, i was listening to classical ballet music. i love it, but i don’t know how to explain it unless you’re a ballet person yourself. for example, i was listening to la sylphides act ii (because we danced to that for our summer showcase), sleeping beauty aurora variation act iii (competition), odile variation from swan lake act iii (also competition), and loads of music from our class that i don’t even know the titles of because they were played by an accompanist. (having a live pianist is the BEST.) needless to say, that was mostly the soundtrack of my summer.
i finished watching DREAM HIGH, a k-drama, and was listening to the OST for a bit. the OST is actually really good because the drama is kinda like high school musical where you’re singing and dancing IN the drama. almost all the actors were professional singers, so the soundtrack was fab. the drama is also quite good and i’d recommend it if you enjoy musicals and not something too dramatic and romance-y. on my commute to classes, i was mostly listening to this spotify playlist (although i didn’t make it through every song):
for the past week, i’ve be obsessively listening to the BADLANDS album by halsey. it was just released and there was a lot of buzz on twitter and tumblr about it, so i though i’d give it a go. i heard one song and was instantly drawn into her beautiful voice and poetic words. i also found out one of her released singles was on the spotify playlist, which is probably why she sounded familiar. anyway, THE BEST. go buy it. NOW. (please?) sydney from a daring adventure also did a wonderful post about it, which had me flailing and squealing.

hello, september
i know i was just complaining about summer being over, but autumn is actually my favorite time of year. and I’M EXCITED. somewhat cool weather, leaves changing, pumpkin spice lattes… what’s not to like? i think the best/worst part of autumn is that it’s performance season! we have our annual ballet performance in november, which i love doing but despise rehearsing. there’s also stress for preparing for auditions and competitions in the winter, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
the next month will probably progressively get crazier and crazier. rehearsals are bound to begin; SO MANY books are going to be released (i’m probably going to be anxiously waiting for my copy of QUEEN OF SHADOWS to arrive today and read it asap); i’m officially going back to my normal schedule, aka school and ballet will take over my life; aaand i’ll try to accomplish/do some other things while that’s all happening! time to tackle the month.
goals for the month
- continue using and following my planner! (i might even share some organization tips ๐ )
- try to schedule all my blog posts on the weekends so i can focus on schoolwork during the week
- don’t get behind on your schoolwork, xan. YOU WILL REGRET IT. (random fact: i call myself xan, which is short for xandra, which is short for alexandra. basically, i grabbed the middle three letters of my name.)
- continue doing BBG in the mornings! don’t give up, you’re only a week in.
- keep your priorities straight. please.
how do you feel about summer ending? what are your september plans? let me know!!
xxx alexandra (aka xandra aka xan aka alex???)
hey xan!
okay im gonna start calling you this instead of alex hahah. anyway i get to be the first person who comment on your post and im very happy lol. i love halsey she’s such an awesome person and my fav songs of her would probably be “ghost”, “new americana” and trouble (stripped edition) im a little sad about summer ending too since i am going to be a senior and less time for reading and blogging *sighs* but i am excited for fall because i love the colours and pumpkin spice lattes are finally in season *swoons* i will probably be in starbucks a lot for the month hahah. good luck with the auditions and competitions, xan! im sure you’ll slay it ๐
lots of love, isha
isn’t halsey the BEST?! i’m going to have a blog post dedicated to her so look out for that later heh ๐ school is going to make us less active on the internet, but almost done! you’re going to uni next year right? gah i’m feeling so old. i’ll definitely be going to starbucks a lot the next month, too. i’m sooooo ready for autumn and cooler weather. thanks for visiting my blog, isha!! xxx
I’m SO SAD about summer ending! I just moved to England from South Africa last month and I haven’t had a proper summer since the beginning of this year and now we’re going into Autumn *sigh*. I love summer it’s my favourite season EVER, so I’m hoping this winter won’t be too cold but I doubt it! ;D
Good luck with school and all your ballet! <3
i WISH winter would be cooler! it’s always so warm here in california โ not that i should be complaining but still. that is so cool to move to england! i’ve always wanted to go to both of those countries, but i’m sure it took up most of your summer :// but hey, at least you didn’t have to move in the winter right? ๐ thanks for visiting my blog! xxx
Giiiirl your summer was amazing. I loved seeing all of your Welcome to New York posts! I’M NOW OBSESSED WITH BADLANDS TOO. Halsey is for real going to be the next big thing. And eeep I love autumn as well! I can’t wait to sip on some pumpkin spice lattes ๐ AND YES TO ORGANIZATION POST. Please do one with pretty photos ๐
I hope you have a wonderful autumn and best of luck with school!
xoxo,
Jen
thank you!! i feel like i kept bothering people with my recaps and didn’t post anything else ahah. it makes me glad sharing my so-called adventure wasn’t for nothing! BADLANDS IS LIFE. i’ll be having a post dedicated to it out soon so look out for that ๐ if i do an organization post, i’ll definitely have lots of pretty photos. dedicated to you, of course. <33
Oh my gosh did you finish Hero of Ages?? I read it myself recently and it was soooo good. Ahh. (But no one I know has gotten past book one and it’s so hard not to just blurt out everything at them. I’d never spoil but it’s like read them all! Please!!)
yes! i finished hero of ages and i just posted my review/discussion on the blog! (like ten minutes ago) I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT IT AND DON’T KNOW WHAT TO FEEEEL.
you had the coolest summer. like all i did was stay home but you got to go on adventures! so envious and so glad you had a great time <33
i'm not excited to go back to school because i'm getting major anxiety over picking a career path. you'd think i'm going to university with the way i'm acting but nope, just grade 10. i'm so jealous of the people who are easily picking their majors like you, who've found a passion. [also dancers are goals because i have two left feet.]
this post was a little nostalgic but also really hopeful and i enjoy that <3
whhaaaat?? you’re only in grade 10?! i thought you were way older because you’re so responsible online. you’re ~goals~. with your superNOVA online presence, i’m sure you’ll find your career calling in no time. (did you see that pun because ohmgod SO PROUD OF THAT ONE.) <3333
I CRY at the pun. it’s been so long since i’ve heard it!!!
RESPONSIBLE? UGH I HATE THAT WORD. MAKES ME FEEL OLD AND STUFFY. I’m fun, i swear.
Well, over here in Australia, Winter is ending and we’re heading into Spring. I spy some posts I missed, will check out later. And yes, I’m sure we’d all appreciate some organisation tips! Hope you have a great September!
i’m excited for the cooler weather, as you’re probably excited for the warmer weather! i find it so cool that australia has their seasons flipped from the US. it seems you guys are always one step ahead of us! ๐ hope you have a great spring/september! <33
Over here in South Africa we are just going into Summer, but I’m more of a girl that loves her cozy days in bed with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book to read, what can I say? I’m a hermit! ๐ I have been dying to read Since You’ve Been Gone and All the Bright Places since foreverrrr! I STILL need to read the first book in the Mistborn trilogy, they’re sitting on my shelves right this minute but they’re just so HUGE and INTIMIDATING and I’m still hesitant even though I know I will love them! *sighs* The struggles of being a bookworm….It’s so cool that you went to NY, glad to hear that you enjoyed it!
ahaha we’ll be hermits together! (or separate since i enjoy my personal space?) those two were some of my favorite reads of the summer! i hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to get to it. i just reviewed the last mistborn book and IT’S SO WORTH IT. my main complaint was that it’s really long and really big, but everything is SO GOOD. i hope you’ll pick it up one day! i know i had it on my shelf for a while before i decided i should get to it after all the great things i heard. have a great summer!!
I’ve realised that I’m going back to school in TWO days and I’ve just run out of posts to schedule so I need to get on that. My main priority this month is to keep on top of everything and stay organised. I have trouble doing work when I get it so it ends up building up and I get stressed out at the end of each term trying to catch up and hand it all in. I’ve also got a lot of added pressure this first month because I have to submit uni applications by the end of October (I think) and I’ve also got a trip to Paris to plan. AH. So much to do. Good luck with your goals!
Hey Xandra/Xan/Alex/Alexandra! (lol when you have so many nicknames)
Anyway Xan (sticking to this one because it sounds rad af), I’m glad you enjoyed Dream High and its OST! Kim Soo Hyun is literally my life *heart eye emoji*
Good luck on using your planner for this month- I’ve been using them for school for almost 5 years and they haven’t failed me yet. :’) I’m kind of sad because this semester I have to take a break on books to put forth my studying. I’ll still be looking at blogs though, and I’m glad I found yours! <3
Aw, I’m so glad you loved my BADLANDS/Halsey post. ๐ I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from talking about that album on the blog. I NEEDED to share it with everyone that follows me. I hope I convinced some people and made new fans out of them!
I may be in the minority that’s glad we’re saying goodbye to summer…*hides* It’s like 100+ degrees Fahrenheit ALL SUMMER here, so I’m beyond excited to say goodbye to summer and hello to winter. I prefer it so much more. I’m so psyched for the chilly weather and getting to wear jackets and boots. ๐
Good luck with your planner! I’m so bad about using and following them… I have really bad “planner habits” because I’ve never really used them. I’m not consistent at all. ๐
