dear future haley,

senior year! you know what images come to mind — college decisions, prom, goodbyes. it’s a milestone that so many movies, shows, books are centered around because let’s face it, there is SO MUCH DRAMA. and yes, it’s gonna be awesome. BUT remember not to start any beef, stay true to yourself, and try not to hurt anyone because you are a good person.
but god, this is going to be a hard year. you’ve been in love with certain colleges since fourth grade and no matter what you do, you can’t get them out of your mind. but obviously, nothing ever goes according to plan and you might face a lot of hurt this year.
and through it all, i just want you to remember to stay positive. you’ve been through a lot and if there’s one thing i love about you, it’s your ability to bounce back after hardship. your ambition has led you to sooo many wonderful opportunities, from blogging at twirling pages to trying new things to meeting new friends.

and! your literary magazine club. oh my god, i was going to cry when i saw all the grade 8/9/10 students at the first meeting, excited and ready to learn and delve into art. you’ve left something good for your school, and it won’t be leaving anytime soon. in other words, i am so proud of how you’ve grown as a person in the past five years, and not getting into a few colleges won’t change that.
don’t forget to document everything because these will be some of the best memories of your life. and it’s okay to be sad, but remember this sadness comes from leaving all this happiness behind! and guess what? that just gives you more reason to smile, because you at least you have something to miss. i’m not sure if i make any sense right now, but i just want you to know that even if you’re feeling down, your past self has enough optimism for you.
so yeaaaah, to any other seniors reading this: this applies to you too. maybe you hate high school and can’t wait to get out, or you’ll miss it as much as me. either way, this is our time to reflect and be thankful for the great things that have happened and how these experiences have shaped us as we are today. either way, this is going to be our best high school graduation ever!! 🙂
with love xoxo,
haley chung of the past.
