12 highly anticipated books, releasing september to december 2018

um so this list was originally supposed to be ten books, but i really couldn’t narrow it down any more because there are so! many! amazing book releases for the latter half of 2018!! it’s a really exciting year for hyped sequels and debuts alike <3

i know i’m a little late for this type of post, seeing that it’s almost the end of august, but i really wanted to share one anyway, especially to tell you about the diverse reads i’m super hyped for.

(i wanted to track those first two reps specifically, bc those are both communities i belong to)

 

1. Sadie by Courtney Summers 🌈 (september 4)

i was accepted on netgalley for this book, but i haven’t quiiite gotten around to reading it yet. hopefully this week!! i’ve heard that Sadie is hard-hitting and heartbreaking which i’m all for. 

i don’t know the specifics but i do know that there is LGBT rep, probably sapphic based on the cast of main characters!

UPDATE: thanks to annie for telling me that it’s actually a relationship between two men! sorry for the incorrect info!

2. Not Even Bones by Rebecca Schaeffer 🌹 (september 4)

so the pitch for this book is ‘Dexter meets This Savage Song’ and HOW COULD I NOT BE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING THIS. i’ve been watching Dexter a whole lot lately (LOVE), and This Savage Song is one of my ultimate faves, as you probably already know. 

this book is a dark, gritty fantasy, and i definitely need some more urban fantasy in my life right now!

i also marked this book as multi/biracial rep on goodreads a long time ago, so i’m also really excited for this aspect! as far as i can tell, the whole leading cast of characters are POC, but i don’t know the specifics.

 

3. Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman 🌈 🌸 (september 11)

i already had the great pleasure of reading an eARC of this GORGEOUS book thanks to May, and I LOVED IT. although i already read this, i’m still excitedly anticipating its release because i’m just so ready for everyone to have the opportunity to read this wonderful book. i’ll have a full review up on the blog later.

there are about 5-6 on-page multiracial characters, which made my heart so happy. i rarely see bi/multiracial rep so abundantly or accurately portrayed, and it was THE BEST THING AH. the main character is hawaiian, japanese, & white, and a couple other character identities included being japanese & korean, as well as black & korean. HAPA PRIDE YO.

there’s also aroace rep (YEEE), which was sO relatable, and i totally felt for the MC’s questioning struggles.

 

4. Vengeful by V.E. Schwab 🌈 (september 25)

Victoria has confirmed that Victor Vale’s asexuality will be canon in Vengeful, so that’s super duper exciting!!

i think we all know that i’ve been waiting in angst for the release of this book for a loooong time. do i need to say more than that? Vengeful offers the premise of even more amazing antihero character development and a super epic showdown between Victor and Eli.

 

5. An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (september 25)

i don’t know how keen i am on the premise of this book, but i’ve really loved Hank Green’s work on Sci Show, Dear Hank & John, etc for a really long time. i’m interested to see how well he tackled writing a book!

 

6. The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzie Lee 🌈 🌹 (october 2)

The Gentleman’s Guide was one of the most entertaining books i read in 2017, and Felicity was probably my favorite character in the whole book (well, maybe tied with Monty & his fabulousness). i have a feeling this book is gonna be so badass and full of feminist girl gangs!

the book has aroace representation and POC rep, specifically a black muslim character.

 

7. Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor (october 2)

i’ve lowkey already forgotten what even happed in Strange the Dreamer, but i remember very vividly that i was destroyed by the ending lol. that, and the fact that Laini Taylor’s writing is HIGH KEY GORGEOUS.

the title of this book is so! badass! so far, i’ve heard really good things about the book, and i know that alexandra will have a review up later in the year.

8. Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore 🌈 🌹 (october 9)

so i have a confession to make,,,? i haven’t really *LOVED* any of Anna-Marie’s books yet? The Weight of Feathers was a really ‘meh’ read for me, and i just barely started Wild Beauty before getting distracted by Crazy Rich Asians. however, this book is a retelling of Swan Lake, and I AM HERE FOR IT. i WILL make it through this book when it comes out, gosh darn it.

this book has Latinx rep, disability rep, a non-binary character, as well as other queer rep! yes. i know what you’re thinking. this is gonna be amazing.

9. What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera 🌈 (october 9)

another book i’ve had the absolute pleasure of already reading. I’M SO HYPED FOR THIS TO RELEASE SO THE WORLD CAN READ IT.

essentially, the book is about the imperfect love story that occurs after the two main characters, Arthur and Ben, meet-cute in a post office.

i’ll have a full review up prior to release, but lemme just say, while being a bit unrealistic, this was so cute and gay. the cast of side characters was super dynamic, and they played just the right role in the story! i had so much fun reading this, more fun than i’ve had in a long time reading.

 

10. Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan 🌈 🌸 (november 6)

MY MOST ANTICIPATED DEBUT/BOOK IN GENERAL OF 2018 OH MY GOODNESS.

yes, i am very excited for Vengeful, but i’m even more anxious for the release of Girls of Paper and Fire. the book is an asian-inspired fantasy with sapphic characters, which basically sums up my excitement for it!!

i’ve heard such good reviews so far, and i really hope i won’t be disappointed.

 

11. Pulp by Robin Talley 🌈 (november 13)

i love a good queer historical fiction read, and Pulp is exactly that!! Pulp is about a gay girl in the 1950’s who starts reading & writing queer books.  this sounds so freakin fun and queer and honestly my exact type of book. plus, the cover is super cute.

 

12. Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean 🌸 (november 6)

JAPANESE! INSPIRED! FANTASY! i really don’t know why there aren’t more asian-inspired fantasies because tbh, asian fantasy = the best fantasy.

essentially, the premise of this book is a competition between a bunch of girls to become empress of Honoku. i’m a total sucker for the whole ‘deadly survival competition’ trope.
