i have a severe soft spot for antagonists and antiheroes. there’s something admirable about being bad. but truth be told, i don’t think these characters are really bad. they’re just… slytherins, which are typically seen as “bad” but they’re really not. and honestly, slytherins are probably my favorites – probably because i could never be one myself.

jude from The Cruel Prince

okay, OBVIOUSLY, jude will be the first choice – mostly because there’s a giveaway for TCP but also because SHE’S SO CRUEL. it’s fantastic. i had very mixed feelings about TCP because it wasn’t very enjoyable to read, BUT i enjoyed it. (??????) it’s like watching animals eating each other on discovery channel – you’re disgusted, but you can’t stop. jude and everyone in faerie is cunning, dark, and everything i taught myself i shouldn’t be. but it was fascinating to read about and i kind of loved her (but also not – IDK MAN).

kaz from Six of Crows

kaz brekker is one of my favorite anti-heroes EVER. i want to hug and protect him, but chances are, he’d literally stab me in the back lol. he’s so smart and heartless I LOVE HIM. if you haven’t read Six of Crows, GO READ SIX OF CROWS. the entire cast (but mostly kaz) is kinda horrible, but also so wonderful.

adelina from The Young Elites

how does one not choose adelina when combining a list of cruel characters? she’s so heartless; it’s actually scary. she’s gotten to the point of “dark” where i feel very uncomfortable reading from her head. BUT it’s also really interesting, so IDK MAN.

nova (and all the anarchists) from Renegades

AHHHHH i love all the anarchists SO MUCH. i was a little hesitant on choosing nova because she’s not actually that cruel. however, i’m sure she’s still fairly “bad” in her core. if you weren’t already sure, i’m definitely team anarchists. GO BAD.

sharpay from High School Musical

i know i’m kinda cheating because sharpay isn’t from a book BUT SHE’S SO GREAT. she’s always seen as bad, but honestly, she’s just ambitious. is that really a crime??? sharpay has always known what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to go for it. #JUSTICEFORSHARPAY
