favorites
february was strange. i felt extremely unproductive because i got behind on my schoolwork and took a break from BBG and also didn’t really read or blog all that much, nor did i dance a considerable amount.. so what did i do? i’m not quite sure either. i could try and defend myself by saying february is a short month, but that’s a lame excuse because it was really only one or two days shorter. but the month wasn’t entirely unproductive; i’ll get to that later. for now, FAVORITES:
hamilton
early in feburary, the hamilton soundtrack on spotify consumed my soul. (perhaps THIS is why i didn’t get anything done.) i don’t actually want to flat out say that i’m “hamilton trash” because i don’t think i’m THAT obsessed – only like 75% obsessed. i kept hearing people talk about it, so i decided to give it a go without realizing what it would become. i’m actually surprised i like it because 1/ i’m not a fan of hip hop or rap music, 2/ i knew nearly nothing about alexander hamilton, 3/ i’m only mildly interested in american history. but now, all three of those things have changed and i’m helpless for this soundtrack.
meal prepping and lent
i was raised as a christian, but never took lent really seriously. i’d say “okay, i’ll give up book buying” but end up caving after a few weeks. i recently started thinking about changing my diet since i was looking up ways i could feel more energized and found this article about veganism. so i’ve decided to be a pescatarian for lent, and see how it goes. the biggest difficulty is probably when my parents order korean bbq and i can only eat the bibimbap. *sigh* i also tried meal prepping (aka cooking all your meals for the week beforehand), which was kind of fun and kind of exhausting and kind of a struggle.
farewell, february
the first week of the month was spent stressing over a ballet competition, and the following week actually competing. i was going to have a recap post, but it was really uneventful. we didn’t go anywhere aside from the hotel and competition venue and occasional restaurants. i performed three classical solos and one contemporary solo. i personally thought my first two classical solos were performed HORRIBLY very poorly, and i was CRYING BACKSTAGE extremely disappointed in myself. (no, REALLY. if i were to rate it on a scale from 1-10 i’d give it a 2 – and that’s me being generous.) but for the third solo, i did a lot better considering my motivation was already down the drain. as for results, i managed to place third(!!!) which is crazy because the best i’ve gotten in previous years was top 12. (they only count the highest scoring solo, so thank goodness i redeemed myself with that last one haha.)
my camera and phone broke within days of each other, so i was a sad slump for a bit. i ended up buying a new camera because i actually need a camera. (i had to film a ballet video audition.) it was a good excuse to finally (finally) cave and get the mirrorless camera i’ve been eyeing for months: OLYMPUS OM-D E-M10. i’m really happy with it so far, and a bit grateful the old one broke (even if it means no book shopping for a bit). i didn’t get a new phone (yet) and am using my mom’s old one at the moment. but at least, i can continue bookstagramming!! 😀 i think that’s all that really happened in february?

foresights of march
there are two more ballet competitions in march, but i’m about 500% more relaxed than i was a month ago because it can’t get worse than last time. ALSO because one is going to be in san fransisco (!!!) and the other in boston (!!!!!). i love traveling, so these competitions actually feel more like vacations than anything else. annnnnnnd because it’s the same one as before (a semi-final) but in a different location, i’m not allowed to place in the top three a second time. these are more like performances than competitions, so FUN STUFF! i’ve never been to SF either, so i’m excited to explore (and meet up with kaitlin from next page please!!!!!!) (I SIMULTANEOUSLY WANT THIS WEEKEND TO COME FASTER AND ALSO TAKE ITS TIME). my sister will be visiting me when i go to boston, and i’ll be going to NY with her for a day once i’m finished with dancing. MARCH WILL BE SO EXCITING.
monthly tbr
- AGAINST ALL ODDS, by patricia vanasse
- A WRINKLE IN TIME (THE GRAPHIC NOVEL), by madeleline l’engle & hope larson)
- THANKS FOR THE TROUBLE, by tommy wallach
- HALF BAD, by sally green
- ME BEFORE YOU, by jojo moyes (currently reading)
- A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES, by sarah j. maas
- THE WINNER’S KISS, by marie rutkoski
i’ve never had a set monthly tbr before, but it doesn’t hurt to try! seven books is a bit ambitious for me, especially since i’m dancing and traveling for the majority of the month, but i think i’ll be able to handle it. all the books i chose are fairly small, and who knows, maybe i’ll be able to add a book or two to this list!
goals for the month:
- begin driving again! (i actually scheduled another driving lesson, so this is a thing that’s happening!)
- get as caught up on school as you can
- continue on with the pescatarian diet
Ooh, SO MUCH THINGS GOING ON. Congrats on the ballet performance though!! And placing third!! *cheers and throws sprinkles at you* And omg good luck for the upcoming ones too. :O I hope they’re not as stressful. Aaaaand, that is a very nice looking pile of books right there. I shall just flail because HALF BAD = one of my ultimate favourite books of ever. It’s only a month till the 3rd ones comes out and I might possibly be shrieking ridiculously much about it. ;D
Also that is bad/good about the camera. i mean the reason to buy a new one is definitely good. Enjoy playing with your new darling. XD
(I feel like I was totally unproductive in February too. aGH. CAN WE PLEASE BLAME IT ON BEING A SHORT MONTH??)
YES for veganism!! And vegan athletes!! (i am a vegan athlete myself) go watch cowspiracy and forks over knives on netflix and Earthlings from youtube 🙂 have a wonderful march!
wait, was that Grand Prix? I had tons of people dance and I was so bummed I couldn’t go. my friend is going to New York for it though, and I’m so happy for her!
congrats on third place for the competition! i hope you have fun going to SF + boston, those are two of my favorite cities. also, yay for veganism! i’m vegetarian because i love cheese too much (woops) but i’m TRYING I’M TRYING.
for your TBR: i love ACOTAR! this is quite random, but i found that it was a good book for fanart because it has so many beautiful scenes. hope you enjoy it!!
have a good march :)) here’s my wrap up!!
Congratulations on third place in your competition! February feels like it went so fast for me to but that’s because I spent most of mine in really intense practice because my synchro competition season just started. 🙂 I mostly eat pescatarian myself: I’m not strict about it but I just don’t really like meat very much. I also have a February wrap-up I just posted, if you’re interested: https://tamaraniac.com/2016/03/february-2016-recap/ 🙂
congrats on third place omg that’s awesome! I hope you reach your goals with ballet, you’ll do amazing in your next one I’m sure! February I think is just a weird month honestly (at least it was for me, mainly bc eXAMS) Its also one of my goals to eat healthy this year and you’re really inspiring me to try harder omg also THE WINNER’S KISS OMG UR GOING TO TOTALLY DIE IM STILL NOT OVER IT
i’m a christian, but I also don’t really do lent : like oh yeah i’ll do it i don’t want to eat meat but then… well things happened. why is it so hard?? 🙁 and that lady midnight omg! can’t wait to read it!!
Looks like you have a fun month ahead of you!

MY MONTH HAS BEEN THE SAME! well of course I haven’t done dance competitions, as I am a horrible dancer and very much do not understand why i even attempted taking classes when I was a small child… It is definitely not my strong-suit. I too have been extremely lazy and unproductive… i need to change that this month, which I keep telling myself over and over again, but will I?
Congrats on coming in third place! That’s awesome! How’s being a pescatarian working out for you? Do you notice any differences? I tried being a vegetarian for lent once and I ended up getting anemia, so that was a fun time.
AHHH you’re reading acotar this month? I hope you’ll love it as much as I did!
I recently started following your blog and I just have to say that I love your pictures and writing style (:

I can understand how stressful a month can be. January was full of exams for me, and I couldn’t concentrate on anything (but my blog posts were scheduled so I posted quite a lot). Hope March will be better for you 🙂 <3
And ACOTAR is so so so amazing. I mean I didn't fully love it at first, but I ended up adoring it!
Here's my post if you're interested: https://younicornreads.blogspot.com/2016/02/behind-ahead-feb-16-mar16.html?m=1
Squee! Congrats on placing 3rd – that’s awesome! <3 I'm planning on reading Half Bad this month too, IT LOOKS SO GOOD.
Oh noooooo I’m sorry. 🙁 I hope March is more productive for you! <3 Also, AHHHHHH THIRD PLACE IS AMAZING! Wait you're going to Boston???? WHAAAT NO WHY ARE YOU GOING THERE WHEN I WON'T BE THERE??? *cries* But seriously, you must be AMAZING if you're traveling so much!!! CONGRATS!!!
I think it’s fantastic that you placed third in your competition! Break a leg on the ones coming up <3 And yay for trying out a TBR! I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of A Court of Thorns and Roses 😀
I’ve never liked rap and I’ve never liked hip hop BUT HAMILTON. Hamilton is the music of my soul. I feel Hamilton.
I know what’s it’s like to be dissapointed in a performance, BUT THIRD PLACE IS AMAZING! Go you! First place will come soon for you I CAN SEE IT. You 18920% deserve it.
Yikes, sorry for an unproductive February! I felt the same way, too. On my recap, I usually share what I did in my life (like places I went, things I did besides read and blog) and there was seriously barely anything I included. Plus I only read four books! At least you got a new camera though, that’s exciting! Congrats on third, though!!! Your monthly TBR looks amazing. We have Thanks For the Trouble in common! Super sad that you didn’t like Enter Title Here, I feel like it had so much potential. Even Tamara DNFed it so now I think I’m going to take it off my TBR, for now at leas /:
I actually fell a bit behind in my school work too, my mum fell ill and had to take two weeks off work so I had to stay home and look after her. Luckily my college offered me an extension (which I didn’t end up needing because I ended up spending countless hours trying to catch up because the idea of an extension made me anxious – what a life!). I need to get my hands on Lady Midnight ASAP, I’m desperate for it! I’m glad that you placed well in the competition even though one of your solos didn’t go so well (although I’m sure at your worst you dance 4385868x better than I do at my best). Hope this month was even better for you!
