confession: i actually didn’t realize these mini-challenges were mini blog post challenges until about mid-way into day one. WHOOPS. welp, better late than never. i’ve decided to combine two of these challenges because these sounded like too fun to pass up!
book spine poetry
since you’ve been gone,
the fixer stray
through the dark,
soundless, vicious winter
i tried thinking of multiple poems, but i was too proud of this one and would probably favor it over others. partially because the words can be strung together to make a coheret sentence, but mostly because the spines compliment each other and match in a green/blue/black-ish ombre. the colors are clearly the most important part here!
an invitation to tea
there are SO MANY people i’d love to meet and have tea with – fictional or not – so choosing these people proved to be incredibly difficult. i’ve also strayed from the typical tea party dishes and decided to go with my personal favorites because IT’S MY PARTY AND I CAN EAT WHAT I WANT. so, without further ado, here’s what my tea party would be like.
what’s on the menu?
chrysanthemum tea
what kind of tea party doesn’t have tea? i’ve decided to choose one of my favorite hot teas: chrysanthemum! i remember drinking it as a kid and emptying bottles after bottles. chrysanthemum is a sweeter type of tea, so i think it would be more versatile among guests.
korean side dishes
are you even MIDLY SURPRISED that my tea party is actually a k-food love fest? no? yeah, i didn’t think so either. a korean-style meal isn’t complete without the mini side dish appetizer things! my favorites are generally kimchi, bean sprouts, seaweed, spicy cucumbers, cut bean cakes, and potatoes, among others. there are so many possibilities!
build your own bowl
because i know everyone has their own preference in food, i’ve decided have a “build-your-own bowl” for the entree. instead of having people build tacos or salads, i think it’d be a good idea for everyone to pick and choose their own bibimbap bowl or soba noodle bowl. for those who don’t know, bibimbap is a bowl with a rice base and assorted vegetables – carrots, spinach, mushroom, bean sprouts, cucumber strips, etc – and occasionally protein – beef, egg, tofu – on top. this is also topped with some sauces. soba noodle bowls are fairly similar in the sense that you mostly just add veggies and protein on top. the main difference between the two (besides that fact that one is a noodle base and the other is a rice base) is that soba noodles are served cold and bibimbap is usually served warm or in a stone pot. however, bibimbaps can be served cold as well.
lara jean song’s cookies
at first, i was going to specify which type of cookies she could bake but then decided against it because anything and everything will probably taste fantastic. also, i guess i spoiled it for you that she’s on the guest list. *shrug* how can one resist against her baking mechanisms?!
ice cream
the meal is incomplete without ice cream. let’s just say we have an unlimited list of flavors to choose from so everyone’s happy. i would personally choose green tea, as always. and since it’s a tea party, it wouldn’t make sense to choose any other flavor! green tea is also my go to ice cream flavor, next to mint chip or pistachio. (i seem to like green food.) thai tea flavored ice cream is also acceptable at this occasion – and have always wanted to try – but will stick to the good ol’ green tea.

who’s invited? and why?
lara jean song covey + peter kavinsky // to all the boys i’ve loved before, by jenny han
this choice is a bit of a given. you can’t expect someone to bring the dessert to your party without inviting them. as much as i’d like to say i’m only inviting her for the food, i’d actually love to meet lara jean one day because her aesthetic is GOALS and i’d like her to give me some fashion advice, as well as baking tips. as for peter, well, everyone wants to meet peter k at some point in their lives.
nikki from fiction freak
NIKKI!! i’d love to meet her one day (one day!) as she’s one of the most related humans ever and i’m sure we can go on and on about all things art, books, and life. i also think she’d appreciate the korean food since she once sent me a snapchat of KOREAN FOOD. (can you tell i’m trying to choose the guests based on food preference? well, i am.)
cinder + kai (and maybe the rest of the gang!) // the lunar chronicles, by marisa meyer
i wonder if the asian food from new beijing is different from present day asia. welp, we’ll see what these two think. cinder and kai would be a nice dynamic at the table. i also feel like they’d make conversations much more interesting, with traveling to the moon and being the prince of a kingdom and all. also, i’m just going to say it… i’ve always wanted to meet and fangirl over them.
annie from the runaway reader
ANNIEEEEEE! i love this girl to death and i cannot wait for us to meet one day, and over ice cream, i think it would be a spectacular time. i can imagine us conversing over everything from the cute interior design (there better be cute interior design) to the necessity to wear fuzzy socks year-round (very necessary).
percy jackson + annabeth chase // percy jackson and the olympians series, by rick riordan
*gives up on trying to choose asian characters/people and just hopes they like the food anyway* IT’S NOT A PARTY WITHOUT PERCY. (and it’s not percy without annabeth!!!) i’d invite percy for obvious reasons; being percy is a reason enough. it would also be cool and refreshing (my water puns right here) to see him (probably) do something dumb with peter kavinsky. and have annabeth rolling her eyeballs off and throwing the seaweed dish at his head saying, “SEAWEED BRAIN.”
aneeqah from the writing hustle & my not so real life
would this even be a tea party without aneeqah??? i need a fellow infp in the premises, but that’s just my lame excuse to invite my fantastic friend. she’d probably glare at me for not inviting the SIX OF CROWS gang, but i thought it’d be best to leave them out since they’d probably steal all the food then disappear right before our eyes.
I love your poem, and your tea party looks delicious! Beautiful photos, too!
Your “tea” party sounds awesome! And hello fellow Angeleno! I love Korean food (Japchae OMG!), and of course, there are a lot of Korean places her in LA (I have one less than a mile away).
Xandra, this post made me so hungry! I love Korean food but there aren’t any restaurants around here so I have to resort to store-bought kimchi and things I can make at home, like japchae and spicy cucumbers. I made bibimbap once but it took soooo long that it wasn’t even worth it for just one person!
I love that you chose so many different kinds of characters and people for your tea party, rather than just authors. That makes it much more interesting!
I love that poem. Everyone is being so creative with their spine poetry! Also, yum!
I absolutely loved your book spine poem!! It fit together perfectly 🙂 Also, your tea party sounds fabulous! You got so creative and I enjoyed reading about your party! Hope your LoveaThon is going great <3
i really love your poem! You did an amazing job putting it together <3 I also love your tea party, and will probably crash just to eat and hang out with everyone 😀
ohhh, so many guests, sounds like you’d have a great time! 😀
And I really like your poem!
Love the poem! Haha, of course you would eat Korean food; I always see it on your Snapchat ;). And yes to Lara Jean Song’s cookies!! I’d invite you of course, Heidi Heilig, and all my blogger friends who live far away!
Really enjoyed your poem! I’d so crash this tea party all the food sounds delicious, especially the green tea ice cream–yum!
Good choice on picking Lara Jean and co. I like the way you think, inviting people who will no doubt bring great food. TATBILB was kind of like delicious torture, wasn’t it? Beautiful spine poetry, too <3
OHHHH my goodness girl, YOU SPOIL ME. May or may not have teared up at the mention of being invited, in company of such aaaaamazing people. I would probably see Cinder and Kai and immediately start crying (I just finished Winter and Stars Above and am still deeply emotionally affected by it lolol). I would also cry seeing Percabeth in person. I would also cry at the sight of all the awesome food (not even remotely surprised by the Korean food, hahaha) and of course THE COOKIES. I love cookies. Basically we could probably have a nice pool party with all the tears I would shed at this party. Yes, I am mad that you didn’t invite the SoC gang (c’mon girl!!!!!) but I mean, I guess I get it. Though Kaz and Inej can steal my food ANY day.
Also, the book spine poetry was so pretty!! I think there’s a writer in you somewhere 😉 *coughs pointedly*. I love how instead of commenting on the actual poetry you focus on the colors of the picture, hahaha. That’s so you, miss bookstagram queen. 😉
Can we please make this tea party happen in real life???
You created a lovely poem, Xandra! I especially love the “the fixer stray / though the dark.”
OH MAN, YOUR TEA PARTY SOUNDS AHMAZINGGGGG. I AM ALL FOR THE KOREAN SIDE DISHES. LBR, THIS IS GONNA TURN INTO BRUNCH ;DD Goddamn, I’m craving Korean food.
Definitely need to join in on Loveathon next year! Looked like so much fun! 😀
I love how much thought you’ve put into this post! The food looks/sounds so great, and now I’m craving green tea ice cream despite never having tried it before :’)

I’M COMING OVER TO YOUR TEA PARTY.
Your poem is beautiful! Also I love your tea party can I come too haha. The food sounds soooo good and though I don’t know all the characters you’re inviting, the ones I do know I love! Plus I want to see Annabeth throw seaweed at Percy
finally catching up with my blog reading and this post was so cute!! your book spine poem is great and bonus points for getting the spines to match too. ALSO OMG XAN THIS TEA PARTY NEEDS TO HAPPEN IRL BECAUSE IT WOULD BE BOMB. also that menu is to die for *insert heart eyes emoji* also just want to say that reading your blog always motivates me to blog more so thanks for that! keep on keeping on 🙂
