every year, during the weekend before thanksgiving, my ballet studio has their annual performance. the production is always different and this time we did SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS. (which i thought was perfect since i just finished WINTER and i could channel in all the inner snow white feels) i would’ve uploaded these pictures sooner, but i was recovering from the exhaustion that is PERFORMANCE.
i love performance season. i thrive for the cool days rehearsing indoors; i live for the feeling of standing in the curtains before stepping in the stage lights. if i’m being completely honest with you, i don’t looooove ballet. i love the feeling of going on stage and performing; i just chose ballet as my outlet to do so. i’m usually equally excited and nervous for the show, but this year i wasn’t nervous at all. it was weird. i think i didn’t realize we were performing until it actually happened. and when i stepped in front of the audience, i was – for the first time – telling a story instead of worrying about my swollen ankle (yeah, there was that) or messing up that pirouette. i guess, for the first time, i was reaaally performing. and it made me really happy and relieved and sad at the same time. but most importantly, it made me want to dance more. i guess that’ll be my motivation when i spend the endless hours in the studios.
Wow, these pictures are gorgeous! 😍 I totally understand the feeling of loving performance more than the actual activity. I don’t always love synchronized swimming practice on the daily (especially when it’s super cold) but I LOVE competition swims when I really get to show off in front of an audience. 🙂
XAN OMG I AM. DYING. You guys did Snow White, and look who got the lead?!! I’m so so happy for you and you are so extremely beautiful. If only I could watch you live!! <3
Omgggg this is beautiful and amazing and congrats on your performance. WOOOOOOW. I’m in constant awe of ballet because it looks so physically demanding. I die lifting a few books on my TBR. *sighs* AHEM. I loved this. *all the heart eyes*
How beautiful! I love ballet. The dancing and the music. I used to take lessons and seriously miss it. A Snow White ballet sounds amazing! Especially with all the retellings out nowadays.
It’s so awesome when you can just step out on stage and actually perform. Instead of thinking not messing up or how nervous you are, you can just immerse yourself in the ideas of the performance itself. Love it when that happens!
These pictures are soooo gorgeous! I kind of wish that I kept on with ballet when I was younger but let’s be honest I’m too clumsy and all of my teachers were really mean. I get what you mean about performing, I used to do drama when I was in school and performing was the best feeling. Just getting that chance to think about something else other than what you’re actually feeling was great.
these pictures are so great! congrats on getting the lead! and i’m so happy you were happy with your performance. would’ve loved to see you dance in person. i have so much respect and admiration for dancers especially ballet dancers which i think stems a lot from my own inability to do anything cool with my body. so pretty <333
This is so beautiful Alex!!
