i received this blanket free from Baloo in exchange for an honest review. all thoughts are my own. thank you, Baloo!!
i’ve had trouble sleeping for as long as i could remember. okay, maybe not as long as i could remember but definitely since my teen years. that’s around the time when i started *overthinking* and my restlessness has persisted since. i tried every sleeping remedy you can imagine: melatonin gummies, CBD drops, white noise, meditation, blue light glasses, wind down techniques… EVERYTHING. except weighted blankets! or at least until a couple of months ago.
when weighted blankets became the new! innovative! insomnia-combatting, anxiety-reducing product, i was eager to try. and after searching through many weighted blanket brands, i found Baloo. i wanted to support a company that 1) is environmentally conscious, 2) is committed to sustainability, and 3) creates quality products. Baloo fits all three.
so. my experience:
there’s a learning curve. although i knew it was a 15-pound blanket, i didn’t expect it to be so heavy. (shocker!) the first few nights, i woke up multiple times throughout the night with the undeniable feeling of weight. it was uncomfortable, foreign, and actually made my sleep worse. now, i can’t imagine sleeping without it. after the initial few days, the weight started to feel really comforting. i sleep deeper and often wake up feeling well-rested.
the quality of the comforter is wonderful. despite the heaviness, it doesn’t feel too hot or too cold. as a blanket, this is one of my favorites and i’d gift it to many friends for holidays or celebrations. i also love how it’s machine washable and really easy to take care of.
but did it solve all your sleep problems? is it worth the hype?
honestly… no. i still use my CBD drops; i still struggle to fall asleep. i don’t think it helps reducing how fast i fall asleep. its effects are more for how deeply you sleep. it wasn’t a ~life changing~ sleep remedy, but my sleep problems are deeply rooted.
i do really really love this blanket. i tried to sleep without it for a night; i ended up waking up to cover it over myself because i now have *separation anxiety* with my blanket. HOWEVER, i still struggle to fall asleep and occasionally wake up in the middle of the night. unfortunately. i don’t think a weighted blanket would solve it. i need to confront my racing mind. in the meantime, i’ll try to build better habits and use whatever remedies to make it better.
ive never used weighted blankets before – but i also don’t have trouble sleeping, and if you say its comfy i might as well give it a try!! hopefully, you can find something else that’ll help you (:
Oo! This sounds interesting. I’m sorry that it didn’t work out for you but glad to hear that there’s a lot of benefits from using weighted blankets. I enjoyed reading your honest review 🙂
