dear alexandra,
i’ve always wanted to write letters to you, my teenage self, but was never able to because i was still a teeeen. in honor of finally growing out of that era today, here are some words of wisdom.
things won’t ever go as planned. as nice as it is to dream of a perfect life, it’s not going to happen. sorry! life simply isn’t that simple. you won’t always get the things you want and things won’t always go your way BUT it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. you’ll learn to deal with it. you’ll move on and realize it may be better this way. there’s no singular path to success and everything is a work in progress.
people will come and go in your life. at the moment it may seem like your friendships will never end and you’ll grow old with all the same people around you, but you won’t. but thankfully, the internet exists and you’re not completely detached from them. in fact, your short catch up sessions will feel even more important because they’re rare and fleeting. as for those you’ll never see again? remember to cherish all the people you connect with — good or bad.
you will find your happy place. i know you may feel so utterly lost and confused, but everything will work out. i know you’re frustrated for being different from all your friends, but it will be fine. i know you’re desperately searching for who you ~reeaaaaaally~ are, but trust me, you’ll find it.
as your tastes change, as you grow into yourself, remember to cherish every moment. there will be nothing quite like your teens, a time in which you grow from a child to a fully functioning person. it’ll be messy, wonderful, and emotional, but most importantly, unforgettable.
happy birthday xan! 💙 have an amazing year ahead!
