farewell, december and 2015
december felt very busy and also very slow. i couldn’t wait for the month to be over, which was very strange since it’s usually my favorite month of the year. the first two weeks were filled with schoolwork and dancing. although our annual performance was over, i was invited to perform the sugarplum solo for THE NUTCRACKER at another studio. i did the variation last year, but haven’t done it since and i forgot how exhausting it was. i didn’t perform as well as i’d hoped, but that simply means i need to spend more hours in the studio. after that, it was our studio’s last regular week before break. at the end of the week, a few my friends and i went to watch ABT perform THE NUTCRACKER! that was really fun because we all got to dress up and go watch the ~ballet~. then, we were on break. (though honestly, i would’ve been happier if it was still on a regular schedule) my parents, grandma, and i headed off to las vegas, nv for christmas and that weekend was particularly awful because 1/ i got food poisoning, 2/ my sister wasn’t there so i had no one to hang out with, 3/ everything smells like smoke. not a huge fan of vegas, but at least i got a lot of blogging done in those few days. aaaaand lastly, my last week has been filled with a ballet “winter intensive” which includes a four hour class and possibly rehearsals after. i’ve been particularly feeling like a ghoul.

i was continuously mentally punching myself for having a slow reading month, but now that i think of it, december was reaaaally busy for me. all these were 4-star reads and i’m happy to finish the year with a few good books.

i felt like december was a poor blogging month, but i guess it was alright. i had a few posts scheduled already so THAT was refreshing. i hit a few surprising milestones in my stats this month, like 1k views in ONE DAY (mostly thanks to my bullet journal post). that was crazy. really crazy. which also lead me to get 16k monthly views which is CRAZY. i suppose i successfully finished the year with a bang. ALSO, i hit 20k instagram followers on christmas, which was a wonderful gift and also CRAZY. my ultimate instagram goal for the year was 10k, and that didn’t even seem possible so having the number double is…. CRAZY. (A+ on word choice, xan)
you’d THINK i’d be listening to christmas songs all month long, but NOPE i was jamming out to troye sivan’s latest album. i wasn’t sure if i’d like it, but it took one listen for me to continuously replay EVERY SONG. my favorites are: lost boy, suburbia, ease, fools. i also finally gave in and got myself spotify premium (IT WAS ON SALE, OKAY).

foresights for january
the days leading up to the end were the worst. i felt particularly bummed about the end of the year and anxious for the high expectations of 2016. all the people my age are graduating and going to universities; all the ballet dancers my age are getting into companies and doing their professional thing. me? i don’t feel like i’m ready to join a company (even if i were to get accepted anywhere, i’d probably defer it). i feel like i should still be studying and training, but at the same time, i feel like i’m two years behind the “regular schedule.” of course for ballet, the general age for joining companies is 16 to 20 so i’m smack dab in the middle and really NOT behind, but i can’t help but feel this way when i’m still sticking around while everyone’s gone doing their thing. but anyway, i’m kinda over that and feel better about the new year now that it’s actually here.
usually in january there are ballet competitions AND auditions (for summer programs), but the schedule moved back this year and the comps will be in february/march instead. so… just auditions for me. actually, i only have one tomorrow for san francisco ballet’s summer program and one on the 23rd/24th for american ballet theatre’s summer program. although i hope to get accepted, i don’t think i’ll actually be able to go because the schedules conflict with another competition in the summer. *sigh* besides the ballet stuff, my sister is visiting on a weekend in january since she had to work for christmas/new year’s. YAY!
